10 Positive Affirmations to Shift Your Energy

Each day we fall into a routine due, in large part, to our habits—what time we rise, the foods we choose to eat, what we wear—all are affected by our habitual nature. 

But did you know that the way you think of and talk to yourself can also become habitual? For those who enjoy a strong sense of self, this can be a very good thing. After all, such people are their own biggest cheerleaders.

But for many of us, it is easy to get stuck in a rut of self-deprecation and negative self-thought.

And that is where positive affirmations can help.

What are Positive Affirmations?

Affirmations are simply positive statements that, when repeated regularly, can help us break the habit of negative self-talk and overcome those self-sabotaging tendencies that have become habit. Affirmations can be added to your morning meditation sessions or used at any point in your day when you feel self-doubt creeping in.

As wonderful as they are, affirmations are not supernatural incantations that magically cause stress and anxiety to disappear. But they can be added to our arsenal of self-help tools to strengthen our self-worth. 

Affirmations are not a quick fix. Think of them like a pair of emotional dumbbells. You won’t see results in your biceps after one set of curls. But, if you use the dumbbells consistently and train your muscles to respond to the effort, you will notice an increase in your strength. 

The same goes for affirmations—the more you use them, the more you train your mind to respond with positivity instead of sabotage…and the stronger you become.

Here are 10 affirmations that, when used regularly, have the power to shift your energy in a positive direction:

  • I am doing better than I think I am.

  • Every cell in my body is full of positive energy.

  • I am awake to the precious value of this moment.

  • I choose the thoughts that create my experience.

  • I have wonderful possibilities entering my life today.

  • I have everything I need.

  • My best days are ahead of me.

  • I will focus on being present over perfect.

  • I will find joy through gratitude.

  • I am enough just as I am.

  • How to Use Positive Affirmations

    Get into the habit of affirming yourself every day. Begin by carving out 5 minutes each day to repeat affirmations that speak to you. While you may certainly use those listed above, you may need to personalize them to meet your needs. Repeat each affirmation 10 times before moving on to the next.

    Here’s another tip—some people find affirmations too forceful when they first enter the practice, as if they are trying to convince themselves of a statement that isn’t true.

    If you find this prevents you from fully embracing self-affirmation, try this—preface each affirmation with the words “What if”…

    What if I am doing better than I think am…

    What if I am enough just as I am…

    Do you notice the difference? Adding the words “what if” softens the intention of the phrase, leaving room for possibility…

    …leaving room for hope.
